Voices of Change 2021

Between December 2020 to December 2021, we offer a vast line-up of national and international stars including several specially produced concerts, recorded live both in Stockholm and elsewhere in the world.

First in line was two glistening concerts; the Syrian international star Lena Chamamyan, who has been called one of the leading singers of her generation. Hints of Oriental jazz permeates her style, creating a blend of classic Arabic, Armenian and Western music.

Furthermore, we had Arabic fusion with influences from Rock, Reggae, Ska and Blues with Hawa Dafi, a band from Majdal Shamsin, the northern parts of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

In 2021, we continue from June 3rd with more concerts! This time Voices of Change offers everything from Persian rock musical with a special composition by members from the Iranian band Kiosk, Persian opera to Kurdish and Balouchi music, a large orchestra and sparkling female singers such as Negar Zarassi, and Josette Bushell-Mingo, and Parvaz Dance Ensemble. And many more artists to be announced!

The annual Voices of Change initiative is a free zone for artists who are unable to express themselves freely in their home countries due to gender identity, opinion or sexual orientation. In the work for human rights, art is a basis for debate and discussion. That is why Riksteatern is proud to highlight these artists, who through their art change and create platforms for a more open and multifaceted world.

We would like to begin by acknowledging that the land on which we operate is the unceded traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nation. We are grateful for the opportunity to live, work, and learn on these lands and are committed to reconciliation and building respectful relationships with Indigenous communities.
